Parent Message 11-14-21
Dear Falcon Families,
Beginning tomorrow, November 15th, the WASC accreditation committee begins their 3-day virtual visit to Scripps Ranch High School. During the course of the next 3 days, staff, student representatives and parent representatives will participate in focus groups discussing our school and the many things we offer. Additionally, the WASC committee will virtually observe numerous lessons to get a good understanding of what teaching and learning looks like inside the classroom. We have been working to prepare for this visit for numerous years and are excited to showcase ourselves as a California Distinguished School. Thank you to those students and parents participating in the focus groups. In today’s update, I’ve provided a reminder of our November calendar, information about the Wednesday College Series, counseling updates, and the vaccine letter that was sent to families on Wednesday, November 10th. Here are the latest updates as of 11-14-21.
* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Progress Report Period 2 Grading Period Ends on November 19th
Next Friday, November 19th is the end of the Progress Report 2 (P2) grading period. Teachers will post grades the following week to be available via PowerSchool on Friday, December 3rd. These grades are a formative progress report and do not represent a final summative semester grade. The final summative grading period closes at the end of January for semester 1.
PowerSchool Marks for Absences on Friday, November 12th
Due to the large number of absences on Friday, November 12th, some absences in PowerSchool may still show as “A” for unverified absence. Our attendance office will clear these marks ASAP so they will be coded as “E” for excused. Teachers are aware that all absences from Friday are excused.
Air Force Junior ROTC Food November Food Drive
Our SRHS AFJROTC program is holding their annual holiday canned food drive to help local food banks feed the less fortunate! The food drive is held from November 1st to December 1st. Parents and students are all encouraged to donate! Students can bring donations to any of their classes with a drop-off bin, and parents can drop off donations at the front office during non-pickup and drop-off times. Please bring canned goods and rice (no boxes of pasta, crackers, peanut butter, etc.). Your support propels the success of this food drive and makes the holidays brighter for those who need it!

The presentation and Junior Resource Packet will be made available on the counseling website under the Junior page after all presentations are complete. Counselors will be in the English classes on 11/19 as a follow-up for any questions that may arise after watching the presentation and reviewing the packet.
Last week for College Application Support Labs
This Thursday, November 18th, is our last College Application Lab meeting. Please encourage your student to come to one of our labs this week to get their application looked over or get support on how to complete their applications. We meet on Tuesday from 8:45 AM-9:40 AM and Thursday from 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM in the Falcon’s nest by the cafeteria. In looking over applications and working with many seniors on completing their applications, we have come across common questions and errors. It is much easier to correct an application prior to sending than after it has been submitted. Counselors will continue to support students with applications as needed after Thanksgiving break, but we will no longer have the labs. Reminder: CSU and UC application deadline is November 30th.
Senior Student Contact Information
During senior year and the college application process our registrar, Janay Lamar, may need to reach your senior student regarding transcript requests, issues with transcripts, or to discuss other important information regarding school items needed for the application process. She sends emails to their student email account, but it would be helpful to have their personal email address as well. Please encourage them to complete the Senior Contact Google Form that was sent to student email accounts on Tuesday, November 9th.
November 18th, Join Cal SOAP and the San Diego Foundation to learn all about scholarships. Flyer for Scholarship Nights
SD FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS:
The Common Scholarship Application will open Wednesday, December 1st
Click here to find scholarship flyers that may correspond to your students’ interests.
There are also more than a dozen separate awards that are administered by The San Diego Foundation but not included in the Common Scholarship Application.
Do NOT requests transcripts for CSU &UC
Please remind your senior student they should not request a transcript for a college application unless it is required in the initial application process. CSU and UC schools do NOT want transcripts as part of their application process. They only want one if a student is admitted to the school and chooses to attend the school. If there is an extenuating circumstance where a transcript is needed earlier, this would be shared with them in their college portal and/or the email they provided on their application. When students request transcripts that are not needed, it can make it more challenging for our registrar to get through all the requests to be able to send the transcripts for the schools that do need them sent now. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support while we try to assist seniors thorough this college application process.
That’s all for this evening. Thanks, and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
