Dear Falcon Families,

I hope everyone is continuing to stay safe and healthy. In this evening’s update, I have included a few reminders about our Mending Matters Wellness Workshop, free COVID testing for students, our student-athlete recognition day and the California Healthy Kids Survey. Additionally, I have included some new details about alternative assessments (in place of state testing) that will be implemented this coming Wednesday and Thursday and the following Wednesday. Those details are below. Here are the latest updates as of 5-16-21.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

SRHS Virtual Wellness Workshop Monday May 17th

In order to help support students with items like stress management, finding balance, personal growth and success, and more, Mending Matters is putting together monthly virtual workshops to educate SRHS students in these areas. The next scheduled virtual workshop is tomorrow, May 17th from 3 – 4:30pm. The workshop is open to all students. To see more details and sign up, see this Link: SRHS Wellness Workshop May 17th. Attendance has been a bit small so I want to encourage as many students as possible to sign up. These are great workshops and are very helpful, especially during this unique and stressful time.

California Healthy Kids (CHKS) Survey – Parent Version and Student Version

This is a reminder to please take the parent version of the California Healthy Kids Survey by May 28th. Also, please encourage your child to take the student version as well. Both surveys take between 25-35 min each. Here are the links:

Parent: https://wested.ugam-apps.com/wed/ts/zk9B

Student: https://wested.ugam-apps.com/wed/ts/sDRc; CHKS Details with Link

The parent and student links are different so please be sure you are taking the correct survey.

Alternative State Testing Details

California has allowed school districts to implement alternative assessments as opposed to the standard CAASPP math/English state exams and the CAST state science exam. Shorter assessments will now be given in math and English and a socio-emotional survey will be given as well. The math and English exams will be given next week to all students in grades 9 – 11 and the socio-emotional survey will be given to all students in grades 9 – 12 the following week. Both “hybrid” and “online only” students will take the assessments with their period 1 or period 2 teachers. The dates were chosen based off of the required window to give the assessments. Here are the details:

PERIOD 1, WEDNESDAY, MAY 19 FOR ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES: 9, 10, & 11

Test: Math 45 Minutes (District Essential Math Indicators Exam)

PERIOD 2, THURSDAY, MAY 20 FOR ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 9, 10, & 11

Test: English 45 Minutes (FAST Fast Track Reading Exam)

PERIOD 2, WEDNESDAY, MAY 26 FOR ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 9, 10, 11 & 12

Test: CORE Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Survey 15 MINUTES (Social Emotional Screener)

Opportunity for the CAASPP Exam – 11th graders

There is still an opportunity for 11th graders to take the CAASPP exam if they choose to. 11th graders will have to opt in in order to take the CAASPP. See the below blurb from SDUSD:

Why would 11th graders take the CAASPP Exam?

The 11th grade CAASPP exam provides students with the opportunity to take advantage of the Early Assessment Program (EAP) for math and English placement in the CSU system. If students do not take the CAASPP, they will not have scores available for the EAP program. Here is link for parents and families regarding the EAP program. Further details regarding how to opt-in to take the CAASPP exam will be shared at a later date.

Free COVID Testing for Students

This is a reminder that SDUSD in partnership with UCSD is offering free COVID testing for students who come onsite for any reason (hybrid, athletes, band, AFJROTC, Theatre, etc.). Please see this Link: SRHS COVID Testing for details. Testing is optional.

Student Athletic Recognition Day 2021

This is a reminder that SRHS will be holding a celebratory event for all Senior Falcon student-athletes who have committed to play their sport at the college level! The event will be on Friday, May 21st from 12 – 1pm on campus. If you would like to be a part of this event, please fill out this Google Form: Student Athlete Recognition Day. The information you provide will be used to create a custom poster at your table as well as to announce your commitment at the event. Congratulations to all!

Students can verify the grades they have earned in high school by viewing their unofficial transcript in the PowerSchool Student Portal. The deadline to submit the summer school application is May 21st.

After the test, scores are received immediately via the Revolution Prep app. Every Revolution Prep practice exam comes with a free 30-minute score report review to assess specific strengths and areas of improvement.
