Dear Falcon Families,

Congratulations to our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams who have advanced to the Regional Semi-Final in the CIF State Playoffs. The girls will play….and the boys will play….In other exciting news, we are hosting our annual What I Wish My Parents Knew event. This event will be held in-person on March 24th from 6 – 8pm in the SRHS library. Please save the date. I will share out more details as we finalize our planning. During the month of March, students, staff and parents are asked to take the California Healthy Kids Survey. Data from this survey is essential and utilized regularly to inform improvement initiatives on this campus. Over the past 4 – 6 years, school culture and mental health and wellness have been some of the biggest areas we have focused on improving, so we hope you will take the time to take the survey so we can assess and continue to grow. In today’s update, I’ve included some reminders, information about the Wednesday College Series, yearbook updates, and more. Here are the latest updates as of 3-6-22.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Important March Dates - Reminder

Progress Report Grading Period 3 Ends

This past Friday, March 4th was the end of the Progress Report 3 (P3) grading period. Grades will be available via PowerSchool on Friday, March 11th. These grades are a formative progress report and do not represent a final summative semester grade. The final summative grading period for semester 2 closes on June 14th.

What I Wish My Parents Knew Event

I am excited to announce that Scripps Ranch High, in association with the SRHS Foundation, will host an in-person “What I Wish My Parents Knew” event on Thursday, March 24th from 6 – 8pm in the SRHS Library. The event is meant as a mental health and wellness resource fair as well as a venue for adults to understand the child perspective of pressure and difficulties that children face today. We are still solidifying some final details so I will share more specific details at a later date.

California Health Kids Survey – Parent Version – Closes March 25th

The California Healthy Kids Survey is one of the most essential pieces of data we use to assess our progress as a school in terms of school culture, safety, school connectedness, promotion of parental involvement, etc. Traditionally, we have an extremely low participation rate from parents and we’d like to change that this year. We'd like to ask you to complete this online survey to learn more about your opinions of Scripps Ranch High. This Link: CA Healthy Kids Parent Survey Info explains the survey and, at the bottom of the page, provides your parent-survey URL and access instructions. Students have a different link and will be taking the survey in class this week. The information you provide will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, and improve student achievement.

SDUSD Indoor Mask Mandate Will Remain

On February 28th, SDUSD sent this Link: Indoor Mask Mandate Update to all staff and families regarding the indoor mask mandate. Click on the link to read the message in full. In short, it says that although California’s indoor mask mandate for schools will expire March 11th, SDUSD will exercise its local control to maintain the indoor mask mandate at this time.

SDCCD Promise Scholarship (Free College Tuition)

The sessions are for 9th-12th grade students in San Diego Unified that would like to learn more about San Diego Promise. The San Diego Promise Program provides class of 2022 eligible graduates who plan to attend San Diego City, Mesa, or Miramar college with up to two years of free tuition and academic support towards completing their academic and career goals! Click here to see dates and times offered, and to register for a session.

Articulation

Over the past three weeks, Counselors have now met one-on-one with all 9th-11th graders through their English classes. Counselors will be meeting with current 8th graders this week.

Course Change Requests for Next Year

Students were allowed to change their course requests in their one-on-one meetings. If students want to make new changes they will have an opportunity to request a level change in core subject courses (English, Math, Science and History) in June on a form that will be provided by counseling. Students who would like to change their elective classes will be able to make that request during Kick-Off in August. We appreciate your understanding that counselors will not be able to respond to course request changes via email and all future changes will need to be requested at the predesignated times shared above.

Counselor availability during Articulation

We appreciate your understanding that it may take longer to return messages and we will not be able to schedule additional meetings until we have completed the articulation meetings with students.

That’s all for today. Thanks and I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D
