Parent Message 1-30-22
Dear Falcon Families,
In a meeting this week with our SDSUD Executive Director of Nursing and Wellness, she stated that we are starting to see a smaller number of COVID absences throughout the district, which is great news! While the number is still high, I’m hopeful we’ll continue to see case rates drop and have things calm down a bit. Until then, we’ll continue to do the best we can. In today’s update, I’ve included our upcoming February dates to note on your calendar, a reminder that final semester 1 grades will be viewable this Friday, yearbook updates, an optional budget needs assessment survey, safety reminders, and more. Here are the latest updates as of 1-30-22.
* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Finally, the “SDUSD COVID Status” header will take you to the district’s latest COVID updates so you can stay up to date on the safety guidelines and case rates. Hopefully these links are helpful for you. I include them each week in my weekly parent messages.
Important February Dates
There will be no school on Friday, February 18th and Monday, February 21st due to the President’s Day Holiday. Monday, February 28th will be a minimum day. School will begin at 10:55am and will end at 3:33pm. The gates to the school will open at 10am for students.
Final Semester 1 Grades - Reminder
The Semester 1 grading period ended on Friday, January 21st. Because of the increase in staff absences due to COVID, the district has now given teachers one additional week to finalize their grades before they are stored for distribution in the PowerSchool system. The last day of the grading term will NOT change. Teachers have been instructed to close their grade books for first semester on the last day of the semester, January 21st. Final Semester 1 grades will be available to view on Friday, February 4th via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The delay in storing grades will also delay athletic eligibility by one week. Eligibility will take effect on February 4th.

Students were shown an Articulation Presentation in their English classes in the beginning of last week. They were also given an Articulation Card and Support Document to assist with choosing classes. The video presentation and handouts are now available on their grade level pages on the Counseling website. Students will be required to upload their course requests in their PowerSchool Student Portal AND submit an Articulation Card that will include their elective back up choices to their English teacher by Friday, February 4th at 3:30 P.M.
Colleges that use the Common Application require a mid-year transcript be sent after second semester is completed. Counselors will automatically send a mid-year transcript to all Common App Colleges in which an initial transcript had been previously requested by a student and sent to the college. If a student needs a mid-year transcript sent to a college that does NOT use the Common App, they will need to re-request their transcript in Xello. Once grades are stored and all classes are loaded on transcripts, mid-year reports with transcripts will be sent to colleges the second week of February.
Mid-Year Transcripts for Students Taking College Courses
Students who are taking college courses will need to send a mid-year transcript to any college requesting mid-year transcripts. The transcript needs to be requested directly from the college.
Transcripts for CSU and UC Colleges
Only request a mid-year transcript to a CSU or UC college if it they are requesting a transcript now. Most do not want a transcript until you have decided to attend the school and are accepting their offer of admissions or will just ask for a final transcript at the end of the year. When you do need a transcript sent to a CSU or UC school, in addition to requesting on Xello you must also email the registrar, Janay Lamar (email@example.com), to explain why you need the transcript. This is to confirm she is only sending transcripts when they are actually required.
CCAP Spring Classes
Students currently enrolled in our CCAP Miramar classes start this week.
That’s all for this evening. Thanks and enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
