Posted December 19th, 2021 via the weekly parent news letter - updates on Winter Break, Non-School Days, COVID Testing Kits, Parent Workshop Series, and counseling reminders.
Dear Falcon Families,
I want to thank all of you for your support and perseverance to help us to get to this point of the school year. There have been some difficult times but also plenty of great ones as well. I wish you all a Happy Holiday season and a Happy New Year. In today’s update, I’ve included the important dates to note on your calendar for January, some additional information about the COVID Home Testing Kits that were sent home this week, and information on a virtual parent workshop. Here are the latest updates as of 12-19-21.
* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.
Due to Winter Break, there will be no school Monday, December 20th – Friday, December 31st. School will resume Monday, January 3rd.
January Non School and Minimum Days
During the month of January, there will be no school Monday, January 17th due to Martin Luther King Day. Due to semester 1 finals, January 19th, 20th and 21st will be early out minimum days. During the early out minimum days, school will begin at the traditional time of 8:45am and end early at 1:41pm.
COVID At Home Testing Kits
This past Thursday (or Friday if your student was absent on Thursday) during period 4, the COVID Home Testing Kits were distributed to students take home. Each kit includes:
Two tests to be used right before we return to school on Monday, 1/3/22
One to be used 3 days before returning to school (12/31/21)
One to be used the morning we return (1/3/22)
Instructions in English and Spanish with a”1-800” toll-free support number for families to call.
CDPH hopes families will register the kits with the CDPH portal and report the results. Note: This is NOT a requirement for distribution or use.
See this Link: Digital Flyer for additional information. Families do not have to report their results to the school, nor is it a condition to return. CDPH just wants to provide at-home test kits for personal use.
Parent Workshop Series
On Monday, December 20th, SDUSD’s Family Engagement Department will be hosting a Zoom workshop providing resources and information about things to do during Winter Break. See below for the flyer in English and Spanish:
See this Link: Safety Guideline Highlights 2021-22 for the highlights of the safety guidelines. No new updates this week.
Time to Catch Up or Get Ahead
We want to make sure every student takes the time off to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy the holiday season with family and friends. Their mental health is the priority. If students want to catch up in their classes, they can work on missing assignments and studying previously taught information that needs greater understanding for future success in the classes. If students want to get ahead, they can start to look ahead at the material that will be taught after break to better understand future lessons.
That’s all for this evening and for the next two weeks. Unless there is new information to share, my next Sunday update will be on Sunday, January 9th. I wish everyone a safe and Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
