Parent Message 12-13-20
Dear Falcon Families,
I hope you are enjoying your Sunday evening and had a good weekend. I have a short update today where I’ll share details about teacher retirements, the Wednesday College Series, a reminder about our Virtual Family Forum, and some counseling updates. Here are the latest updates as of 12-13-20.
* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info. ASB will also include blurbs from my weekly messages on their social media @scrippsranchasb.
There will be no school from December 21st to January 1st. School will resume Monday, June 4th.
We have 5 of our amazing teachers retiring this month. Congratulations to Marilyn Ortega, Bergith Weber, Shawny Sheldon, Mickey King and Cheryl Stock on outstanding careers. There last day will be this Friday, December 18th. Our new staff will be starting this Monday, December 14th so they will have a one week overlap with our retiring staff. This one-week overlap will help with the transition. Our new teachers are:
Sara Wang – for Mrs. Weber’s classes.
Amy Blatchley – for Mrs. Stock’s classes.
Kathleen Parris – for Mrs. Sheldon’s classes.
Jennifer Lacson – for Mrs. Ortega’s classes.
A new teacher has not been hired for Mrs. King’s classes. We are still working with HR to hire someone ASAP.
Our new teachers will go to class this week to introduce themselves to students.
Reminder: Virtual Family Forum Thursday, December 17th 4pm – same message I sent last Thursday
The SRHS administration is planning to host a live Virtual Family Forum this Thursday, December 17th at 4pm. If you are interested in attending, please complete this Google Form: SRHS Virtual Family Forum. This is the same Google Form many of you completed last Thursday. You will be sent the Zoom ID and password the morning of December 17th. For those of you that can’t make it live, I will be recording the presentation to send out in my next update so you’ll have all the latest information.
Wednesday College Series
The Wednesday College Series this Wednesday, December 16th from 1-1:25pm will feature admission counselors from Colorado State University, Hawaii Pacific University, Stoneybrook and Vanguard University. To register for this meeting, please complete this Google Form: Wednesday College Series 2020-21. Please do not register using your sandi.net email, please use another email address. A Zoom link will be emailed to you the morning of December 16th.
Please encourage your student to reach out to their teachers this week to come up with a plan for how to catch up over break.
Academic Supports: Teachers are a great resource to reach out to during class, after class, during flex time and via email. There is also peer tutoring offered Monday thru Friday, 1:00 P.M.- 2:00 P.M. If a student wants assistance from a peer tutor, please have them complete this form and they will be matched with a tutor.
The deadline has past to request initial transcripts and/or additional school forms (e.g. counselor recommendation, counselor letter of recommendation, school report, etc.) for applications due between Dec 15th- January 8th. However, if you have not ordered these items on time but they are still needed, please submit the requests tomorrow, Monday Dec 14th, otherwise you risk your materials not being sent when needed. Remember, school staff is also off during winter break.
*Note: CSU & UC schools do NOT want a transcript or additional school forms during the initial application process. If a student is using the Common Application they MUST request the transcript on Naviance AND complete the request form for additional school items in order to get their transcript and other items sent.https://www.srhscounseling.com/transcript-requests
Transcripts & Letters of Recommendation Requests: If students have already requested for letters of recommendation to be sent by their teacher and add more colleges at a later date, they will need to email the teachers to let them know they would like them to forward their letter.
Mid-Year Transcript Requests: ONLY submit a mid-year transcript request IF it is required by the college. DO NOT request mid-year transcripts for CSU or UC colleges!*
If your student is using the Common Application OR if they are using another college application that requires a mid-year transcript, the option to order the mid-year transcript is now available on Naviance. The mid-year transcripts will NOT be sent until quarter 2 grades are finalized and added to the transcript from the district. Therefore, mid-year transcripts will be sent the first or second week of February. Students only need to request the mid-year transcript on Naviance and will NOT be required to complete an additional google form. If students are requesting a mid-year transcript for a Common Application school, we will also automatically send the mid-year school report.
IMPORTANT: If students are applying to a school that asks for a mid-year transcript, but have NOT requested an initial transcript yet, they must first follow the process on the transcript request webpage (Both steps 1&2) prior to ordering the mid-year transcript.
Picking up Textbooks or Classroom Materials
For students who still need to pick up textbooks or classroom materials, see this Link: Item Pick-up for the dates and the protocol.
That’s all for today. I look forward to seeing many of you live on Thursday.
