ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS WHO WERE REGISTERED FOR THE PSAT ON 1/26/2021 .
Due to the current weather conditions, the PSAT scheduled for tomorrow morning has been cancelled and students will attend their usual classes. See below to read the most current updates as of 1/25/2021.
January 25, 2021
Dear San Diego Unified School District students and families,
Unfortunately, the current weather has forced us to cancel the PSAT/NMSQT exam scheduled for tomorrow since our sites are not able to provide the optimal outdoor testing conditions. The inclement weather creates the potential exposure of testing materials and other testing irregularities that could invalidate the tests. Our district leadership contacted College Board to request that the test be postponed until after the storm had passed or allow our students to take the exam online. Unfortunately, their response was that “the combined forces of the pandemic and weather prohibit the administration of the exam for tomorrow.”
Our alternative solution is to offer the SAT to our juniors at no cost on March 24, 2021. This exam also serves as an alternate entry to the National Merit scholarship and has the added benefit of being used for potential college admissions applications.
Rest assured that we explored every possible option before deciding to cancel the exam due to safety and test security concerns. The College Board has committed to work with us to ensure that San Diego’s students will have another opportunity on March 24 to take College Board exams to gain the benefits of the PSAT/NMSQT.
NEXT STEPS to register for the SAT on March 24th:
Students will need to complete a short application by April 1 to be eligible for this alternative entry to the National Merit Scholarship. https://forms.nationalmerit.org/alternateentry
It is recommended that students get COVID tested before the exam. The county has free tests or you may check with your child’s health care provider for their options. https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/sdc/hhsa/programs/phs/community_epidemiology/dc/2019-nCoV/testing.html
Schools will email details about arrival time for the March 24 exam date in early March.
This opportunity is completely voluntary and not required.
Questions? Please contact your school’s coordinator or district coordinator email@example.com.
What safety precautions are in place?
We have planned with the county health department and district nursing, facilities and leadership to ensure a safe testing environment. For details, please review these slides: https://tinyurl.com/PSAT2021students
I’m not comfortable testing in person but want to practice for the SAT. Are there other options?
YES! In addition to Khan Academy, there are two free practice tests on the CollegeBoard website: visit https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice/full-length-practice-tests
