Homecoming Celebration 2021: Update

Parent Message 9-14-21

Dear Falcon Families,

I know there have been some questions pertaining to the traditional Homecoming Dance so I wanted to send out a message today to inform you of the latest information. As of yesterday evening, there have been several updates to the San Diego Unified School District's health and safety guidelines for outdoor events. I am excited to announce that we will be able to hold a homecoming celebration on Saturday, October 9th from 8pm to 11pm. The following safety guidelines will be in place for the Homecoming celebration:

  • Students maintaining a physical distance of 6-feet.

  • The event will occur outdoors.

  • Reminders for distancing of 6-feet will be in place on campus.

  • All students will be monitored to keep face masks on at all times, covering the nose and mouth, unless eating or drinking.

  • Restroom access will be limited to half of the maximum capacity.

  • All Homecoming guests must adhere to the established health and safety guidelines.

  • A point of entrance and a separate exit will be designated.

  • Concessions/food/drink will be allowable outdoors with distancing of 6 feet.

  • Students will be required to review the daily symptom checklist at home before arrival to the event. If student answers “yes” to any symptoms, he or she must stay home (this is an expectation as symptom questionnaires or “ClearPass” will not be collected by staff).

  • Masks will be available for all students who may need them during the event.

  • Attendance will be recorded for contact tracing purposes (if needed).

To honor these guidelines, we are changing the event from a Homecoming “dance” to a

Homecoming “celebration.” While there will be no dance floor, students can plan on a DJ, flip book, photo booth and other fun activities.

Tickets for the Saturday homecoming celebration will go on sale starting next week, so mark your calendars. ASB is also working hard on several other homecoming celebration activities including float building, a spirit week, homecoming rally, lunch activities, a homecoming tailgate before the Friday football game, a homecoming halftime show during the homecoming football game and a homecoming court. We will continue to share details for each of our planned events as they get closer.
