Dear Falcon Families,

Happy Sunday evening everyone. I have some great news to share. This past Wednesday, Scripps Ranch High School was named as a 2021 California Distinguished School by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond. This is a big honor and a testament to the special school that we have. I have included the press release below. Additionally, I’ve included important info about a change in our attendance codes, a brief statement from Superintendent Marten regarding next school year, a reminder about our Senior class picture this Friday, and some updates/reminders for both “hybrid” students and “online only” students. Here are the latest updates as of 5-2-21.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

SRHS Named a California Distinguished School

Great news! On Wednesday, Scripps Ranch High was named as a 2021 California Distinguished School. See this Link: Press Release for details. This award is shared by all staff, students and families. A big thank you to our families for the support you show us each year.

SRHS is Officially a No Place for Hate School for 2020-21

Due to hard work of the SRHS No Place for Hate committee and the numerous activities that were (virtually) hosted this year spreading messages of kindness, acceptance and inclusivity, SRHS has been officially designated a No Place for Hate School for 2020-21! Here is our Link: NPFH Virtual Banner. A physical banner will be delivered to our campus later in the year.

SRHS Athletics Website #1

Our Scripps Ranch High Athletics website has been ranked #1 in California and #11 in the nation for views. Our Athletic Director, Coach Wilson, runs the website and does an amazing job with it. A big thank you to him. If you haven’t done so this year, check it out at https://srfalcons.org/ The link is also in the header (second from the left) of my weekly parent messages.

Attendance Change

Effective Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in order to keep students safe and ensure SDUSD attendance process accurately reflects the number of students who are physically onsite, the attendance codes in PowerSchool have changed:

An “A” code means a student is absent (not on campus in class and not online in class).

A “PO” code means the student is present online (same code for both “online only” and “hybrid” learners).

If a student is present and onsite, no code will be entered. This will show as blank.

These codes are all visible to you on PowerSchool Parent Portal so you will be able to see how your child attended school. An “all call” will no longer be sent home to families unless a student is a “hybrid” student and is marked “A” for absent.

Planning for the Fall 2021 – from the Principal’s Update

At the Board Meeting this past Tuesday, both Board President Richard Barrera and Superintendent Cindy Marten clarified the district’s plans for the fall. Here is what they shared:

San Diego Unified is planning for a full return to full-day, in-person learning, five days a week, for the 2021-22 school year, beginning in August of 2021. All of the work we are doing today is in service of welcoming the students back to campus now, in the summer, and in the fall. Our fall programming will not include a hybrid model for students and our educators will not be required to simultaneously teach both our onsite instructional model and our online instructional model.

We are in the process of developing a robust online learning program for students who will choose an online instructional model. Therefore, we will be able to accommodate students and families who choose to remain at home based on health and safety needs and students and families with sensitive medical needs. We look forward to an amazing year of learning, as we welcome back our students and families with excitement, enthusiasm, and joy.

Class of 2021 Senior Picture

We are keeping the Senior Class Photo tradition alive this year! This Friday, May 7th at 1pm all seniors are welcomed to come to campus to take a class picture on the football field. A big thank you to the senior parent group for their help with this event. We will be taking a picture with a drone while following all safety guidelines. There are some items to take care of before you are cleared to campus so please see this Link: Senior Drone Picture for the full details. Feel free to share with all senior families!

Counseling Updates

Summer School 2021

Accepting Applications now! The district will be offering summer school from June 21- July 30, 2021. There will be an option to make up 4 credits through ONSITE learning or 2 credits through online learning. More information about summer school and the required applications can be found on the SRHS counseling website summer school page. If your student has any D’s or F’s that need to be remediated for college or graduation, it is best to submit the application as soon as possible to secure their spot in summer school. Students can verify the grades they have earned in high school by viewing their unofficial transcript in the PowerSchool Student Portal. The deadline to submit the summer school application is May 21st. Priority deadline is May 5th.

Revolution Prep is offering our students the opportunity to take a practice college admissions exam from home. A proctored practice exam is a great way to get a real-time snapshot of testing performance to help create a testing plan and determine which test to take if a student is interested in taking a college admissions exam. After the test, scores are received immediately via the Revolution Prep app. Every Revolution Prep practice exam comes with a free 30-minute score report review to assess specific strengths and areas of improvement.

-------------------- “Hybrid” Student Update--------------------

School Meals Wasted

Please forward to your student: Over the past few weeks we have had a large amount of school lunches thrown in the trash or in the bushes without being eaten. Food is free for all, however, it is not mandatory that you take a meal. If you do not want to eat the meal, please do not take one. In addition to lunch, the meals are meant to be brought home for breakfast, dinner and weekend meals as needed. If you pick up a meal please at least bring it home and let your family decide how best to utilize the food and beverages within the package. There are many families in need that this food can support. See this Link: Reducing Food Waste for further details.

Changing from “Hybrid” to “Online Only”

If you are interested in changing your learning option to “online only,” please complete this Google Form: Hybrid to Online Only. Due to the numerous logistics involved in officially changing the learning option in our system, the advisory class in your child’s schedule will take a few days to change. We will work to make these changes in our system ASAP.

-------------------- “Online Only” Student Update--------------------

“Online Only” to “Hybrid” Learning Option

If “online only” families are interested in returning to campus for the “hybrid” option, please complete this Google Form: Online Only to Hybrid. I have the Google Form set up to give you a receipt once you submit. Please keep this receipt for your records. We will reach out to you as soon as we are able to accommodate your child.

Picking up Classroom Materials

For “online only” students who need to pick up classroom materials, see this Link: Item Pick-up for the dates and the protocol.

That’s all for today. I hope that everyone has a great week.
