CIF has announced that they are officially opening the CIF Season for some sports. See their full announcement below:

Athletic Update as of 1-15-21

CIF has announced that they are officially opening the CIF season on Monday, February 1st for some sports in the purple tier. The two sports that must follow CIF rules and will start official practice at school sites: (1) Cross Country and (2) Swim & Dive.

Cross Country

SDUSD is in the process of attempting to secure Morley Field or Liberty Station in Pt. Loma for City Conference meets.

Swim & Dive

CIF has announced they are flipping the seasons for Water Polo and Swim & Dive. They are doing this because Swim & Dive is in the purple tier and will be able to compete earlier than Water Polo (which is an orange tier sport). SDUSD is working with CIF, the City of SD and sites that have pools to explore options.

Start Dates:

Cross County and Swim & Dive

Cross Country and Swim & Dive may start CIF practice Monday, February 1st as these are sports classified in the purple tier and thus can begin practice. They will NOT be able to compete against other teams until the state/county guidelines allow for competition.

Field Hockey

Field Hockey is a season 1 sport that will be given an official start date as soon as SD County moves into the red tier but until that happens, they can continue to condition as they have been through the AAU process.

Golf, Track and Tennis

Golf, Track and Tennis are season 2 sports that will kick off in February. Since they are currently in the purple tier, CIF believes there will not be a delay with their start dates and in fact have moved the start dates up earlier

All Other Season 1 Sports

All other season 1 approved sports (Football, Badminton, G. Volleyball) may continue to condition on SDUSD facilities through the AAU process they have been utilizing. Their official CIF start date is a good amount of time away. Further information will sent out as it comes to me.
